Sterling and Toby and I are leaving our perfectly good home, with its comfy bed, couches and a recliner in 24 days! Yes, I’m pretty sure we are crazy. We are putting adventure over comfort. That’s not that unusual for 20 somethings, but we are 60 somethings, and comfort has become more important to us in the last decade. Sterling and I have wanted to ride our bicycles out across the country for many years. Pesky things like jobs have been holding us back, but now we are retired and have the chance to go see the world!
Toby is not into adventure. He would definitely prefer to stay home, but he refuses to let us go. Toby is a 12 year old whippet. We didn’t expect him to still be here since he has a bad heart valve and was given 6 months to live about a year ago, but he isn’t giving up. He also refuses to ride in the chariot we bought him. One of us will be driving our 2014 Subaru Forester with him safely buckled in the back seat. Every morning one of us will get on their bike and ride! The other one will chauffeur Toby to our pre-planned lunch stop. Then we will trade places and the driver will ride while the cyclist drives.
