TORREZ TRAVELS

After much planning, and making reservations, and canceling reservations, and making new reservations, we have come to the conclusion that riding alone is not what we want to do. Originally we wanted to just ride our bikes across the country, but we didn’t know what to do about our dog, who was deeply attached to us and refused to eat if we were away from him more than two days. He was older, and had heart problems, so we thought we would just wait until he passed on. But we were getting older too! That is how we decided to ride and drive across the country, originally with our dog, Toby. Just two weeks before we planned to leave, Toby passed away. We felt like there wasn’t enough time to re-plan everything, so we decided to just continue with the plan. Then our transmission started having trouble and we had to drive to Eugene to get it fixed. Now we have come to the conclusion that we don’t like riding without each other. The one day we tried it, I worried about Ster while he was riding without me, and Sterling was so worried about me that he had actually been following me the whole time! So now our plan is morphing. We have decided to drive together to our planned stops, then get out and ride together around the areas we want to see.

Today we rode our bikes back over to the mechanic’s and picked up our working car! As we rode beside the Willamette River I had to stop and take some more pictures. We have helmets that have little radios in them so we can hear each other talk. I suggested we stop and Ster said yes. I think it was that point in time that we both realized that riding together was more important to us than being able to say we had ridden our bikes across the continent. We are a happy, blessed couple!
