Prineville/Bend

Tonight we are in Prineville. It’s a small town in eastern Oregon. The land has changed so much since we were getting rained on! After we left the coast, the elevation changed what plants were growing, but most areas were still very green and full of plants and birds. Then we crested the mountains, and the type of trees we were surrounded by changed. Here are some pics to show the progression.

The fern here has leaves that have turned red. I’ve noticed this in other places too. I wish I knew why the plant does that!

This bench is carved out of a single log! It’s hard to tell from the picture, but it has river otters holding fish they have caught. It’s really good work.

I grew up in a desertish area, so I do enjoy all that grows here, but for some reason I’ve always been more comfortable closer to water.

We had a great day today. We took a detour south to Bend. It’s a pretty big city, and is very bike friendly. They have a nice path along the Deschutes River.

Here are a Canadian Geese family enjoying the river.

There were restaurants along the path and many people eating out in the sunshine. Unfortunately, there were too many pedestrians to really get a workout on our bikes, so we found a less popular path to burn some calories! I didn’t stop to take pictures since i was trying to keep my heart rate up!

Tomorrow, we are heading to Dayville. A town named after a man who found a bunch of fossils!
