Baker City

This is our last stop in Oregon! We have been finding bicycle paths we can ride on, and are changing our original plans to go to them, and also we are going to try and visit more places we can go hiking, possibly state and national parks. Today we drove from John Day which was in high desert. We drove up several summits along the way. I lost count, but I know it was at least three. We would get up to the five thousands in elevation, and then drop back down again. Each time the flora around us changed. As we drove higher, we got back into lots of pines, firs, and juniper. They were so pretty and green! I really prefer to be in an area with lots of trees.

Then the road led us to lower elevations, and the trees disappeared.

This is Strawberry Mountain. It’s beautiful, but why Strawberry?

When we got into Baker City we were very impressed with the beautiful buildings.

Lots of Victorian houses, some had been turned into businesses, but some looked like they were still being used as homes.

I had to get a close-up of the eagles, they were so cool!

This was a Catholic church. It was really gorgeous, but hard to photograph, being so big!

This is part of the main street.

We were surprised to see giraffes downtown!

The Powder River runs through Baker City, and they have a three mile walking path along part of it. We had a great time getting a little exercise!

We also saw some deer on our walk!

Tomorrow, we head into Idaho!
