Riggins

This has been quite a week. On Monday, the 25th we rode our bikes in 95 degree heat. Yesterday we rode in windy conditions, but enjoyed it. Last night we survived a rainstorm. It got into the high 30’s temperature wise, and we ended up getting wet. Our air mattress, which is the key to our ability to sleep in our tent, was pushing against the walls of the tent. We really hadn’t thought about it. We knew that can cause moisture to seep through the tent wall, but it has been a long time since we were out in a rainstorm. We didn’t get a lot of sleep. It rained pretty hard, and we got pretty wet. We ended up “sleeping” in the front seats of our car! Boy are we having an adventure!

Today we followed the Little Salmon River to Riggins, Idaho. We have had the escort of rivers most of the way, so far. We crossed the Columbia River to enter Oregon. We followed the McKenzie River from Eugene to McKenzie Bridge. We picked up the John Day River in Prineville, and then crossing the Snake River got us into Idaho. Then we found the Weiser River and followed it to Council. Tonight we will be sleeping next to the Little Salmon River. It’s NOT a little river, just look at this pic!

We drove through beautiful country the past two days. Here are a few pics.

The storm clouds are lingering over the mountains.

It’s gotten dryer again. The slopes are so steep around Riggins, the trees have a hard time hanging on, and the most of the moisture runs down into the rivers.

We are staying here for two days! May 29th will be our 27th anniversary! Talk to you tomorrow!

What an adventure!!! Different kinds of weather are always fun. Of course, sleeping in a wet tent isn’t!

    1. Thanks! The plants, geology, any animals we see are what I’m most interested in. I’m becoming more interested the cities as I see the variations as we travel from urban to remote, and the different states, of course.

    1. We really liked Oregon. All across the state drivers stop when they see you at the side of the road waiting to cross! Also where we went the speed limits were low compared to CA. That’s a plus if you want to see things and you’re not in a hurry!
