Marquette, MI

We spent last night in a ski lodge! It’s a pretty big operation. There were at least six buildings for guests to stay in. They have their own restaurant. We came through in between seasons. They are, of course, really busy when there is snow. They also get many guests during the summer. We had the breakfast room to ourselves this morning. The cook was waiting to cook just for us!

After breakfast we went for a walk. It was a bit overcast, but not too hot or cold. I took a few pics.

These lupine were so lovely. They grow wild all along the side of the roads here!

There are small ponds and lakes all over! At this one we could hear what we thought was probably frogs, this deep thrumming sound. I wished for a way to record it!

I went crazy trying to get good pics of all the trees. There are many more evergreens in this area than where we were yesterday. I love all the different shades of green!

Again, more water everywhere! The mosquitos are opportunistic and ravenous!

The bedrock doesn’t seem to be very deep, I took a few pics where they had cut some away to build the roads.

Once we made it to Marquette, we took a walk along the edge of Lake Superior. There is a path that goes by the marina, and some history was posted about the town.

Lake Superior has been mysterious and awesome. We will be leaving it tomorrow to see it’s siblings.

We watched as this massive fogbank crept closer and closer.

This giant contraption was made to load the large ships that carried trade throughout the Great Lakes. I think it was for the iron ore that was mined nearby.

There were several buildings from this town’s history.

I was very excited to find lilacs blooming all over Marquette!

We were also delighted by the geese and their babies!

And the ducks and ducklings!

What made us really laugh was the telephone in our room!
