Goodbye to Lake Superior

I got together with my 3 sisters today on Zoom. We always meet on Wednesday at 9 am PST. We have traveled so far east now that we are three hours ahead, and we had to wait till noon today. In order to be sure we would have good signal, we stayed in Marquette, MI for the call. So we had plenty of time to get some exercise in. We walked on the same trail that goes along the lakeside, but further north than we went before. We tried to keep up a good pace, and ended up walking for about an hour and a half. Superior is really beautiful. Here are some pics from this morning.

We found another family of geese. These young ones are closer to teens than babies.

We are trying to figure out what kind of gull they have here. We are used to California gulls, but they have a reddish dot on their beaks, and these have a black dot.

We also saw a deer!

We walked past the Superior Dome. I love how everything is named after the lake, and in no way implies that all of these places are better than anywhere else!

We found another ore loading mechanism, this one is still being used. In fact we saw a train engine and ore cars on top of it! I first thought this was two separate ships, until we got closer, and I realized it is all one long ship!

We also saw a lighthouse getting surrounded by fog.

0f course I had to take pics of the trees! So beautiful!

For more than three hours we drove through forests that were so thick, you wouldn’t be able to walk through them.

Eventually we made it to the Mackinac Bridge. It reminded me of the Goldengate Bridge, but this one is longer, and it may be higher! Very large ships pass under it.

As we crossed this bridge, on one side was Lake Huron

And on the other was Lake Michigan!

We drove through more very thick forests, till we got to our hotel for tonight in Cheboygan. It turns out that there is a Sheboygan, WI and a Cheboygan, MI! Very confusing, I’m not sure which one I have heard of.
