Barcelona/ Fredonia

For some reason my pics did not come through on this blog. It could have been poor wifi. I’m resending it. The wifi I’m using today is stronger.

We woke up in Ohio, drove along the south coast of Lake Erie, and through a thin bit of Pennsylvania, and we are now in New York! We stopped for about an hour in Barcelona, New York. Then we continued on to Fredonia, New York. Did you know there are four cities with that name in the US; in Arizona, Kansas, Wisconsin, and New York. There is also a city in Colombia with that name. I haven’t heard of it before, so it surprised me. I’m realizing that I have lived a very un-informed life. Travel is good for learning about others. I’m a little sad that I didn’t travel when I was younger.

We stopped in Barcelona because they have a lighthouse there that is very beautiful! We got to climb up the stairs inside and look out from the top!

These are some of the stairs going down.

This is the side of the ladder you had to climb at the top of the stairs.

And this is the hatchway at the top.

This is part of the view from the top. So beautiful!

And this is us at the top!

After that we went down to the beach. We had looked at Lake Erie from the marina in Cleveland, but that day was overcast and windy. This view was much more pleasing with blue skies and sunshine!

I loved the different blues in the water. Photos don’t do it justice.

There was also a small waterfall on the beach below.

And wildflowers!

When we got to Fredonia We were impressed with all the old buildings. There were three churches all on the same street.

This one

And these two right next door!

We were walking around the town when we came upon a graveyard. I wanted to go see the beautiful trees, but we ended up finding the graves of some revolutionary soldiers!

There was also at least one soldier of the Civil War. Here are some of the trees!

We also found the football field for the high school. Sterling really liked their team name: The Hillbillies

So glad to hear from you!
