Today we started driving south-ish. We are heading for Hampstead, North Carolina. We drove to Scranton, PA today. This is the birthplace of Sterling’s mom, Naomi Elizabeth Hess-Torrez! She was a wonderful person that I didn’t get to spend much time with, as she passed away just a few years after Sterling and I got married. She grew up in Arizona, and, in 1953 became the only person from Arizona to win the National Spelling Bee! Quite an impressive lady!
While in New York we have seen people driving horses and wagons several times. We didn’t plan to go to any Amish or Mennonite communities, but it was cool to see them around.
When we got to Scranton today we took our bikes for a spin. There was a very strong wind blowing. Twice now we have questioned Chicago’s title “The Windy City.” The winds in Cleveland were ferocious, and again today we were surprised at how strong the wind was.

There was a nice mural painted on a wall at the end of the bike trail.

All through New York and Pennsylvania, We have been surrounded by trees! I’d love to come back in the autumn, to see the change of color!

Rolling hills just full of trees!
Tomorrow we head to Harrisburg, the capital of Pennsylvania.
So glad to hear from you!
