Jacksonville, FL

We spent yesterday driving to and hanging out in Jacksonville. It’s a big city with lots of freeways. It was pretty hot again, so we found a library and hung out there. Libraries have had a very positive impact on my life. I remember as a child loving to look through all the books. One year our library held a competition to see who could read the most books. Yesterday, I saw a flyer in the library announcing a similar competition. Also, when I was a single mom, the library was a great place to take the kids, and not spend money. Now we find a quiet corner, use the wi-fi, and sometimes charge our phones.

The country here is really beautiful. I thought egrets were common in the San Francisco Bay area, but they are everywhere here in northern Florida! I didn’t even mean to take this guy’s picture!

We have seen several places named for Sterling on this trip. This was a neighborhood named for Sterling Creek. And the top pic is at a park we hoped to get some exercise in, but it didn’t have any shade, and was too hot!

As we have driven south We’ve seen the pines of North Carolina become fewer, and the saw palmetto become more common.

Next up: Melbourne, FL our last stop before Ft Lauderdale!

So glad to hear from you!
