Melbourne, FL Part 2

We started back up the east coast of Florida today. This is the first time we have started shortening the distance to our home on this trip. We drove on Florida A1A, which is the continuous road closest to the ocean. The views of the ocean are still somewhat rare. There is a row of palaces between the road and the ocean. Here is a screen shot of a map of the coast.

You can see the very thin green line between the blue of the ocean and the white, thin strip of land before it turns blue again for the intercoastal waterway. That green line is where we drove today. It was very lovely.

You can see the intercoastal waterway at the very bottom of the picture. Also the docks are there. There are houses across the street from each dock. Sterling wondered if you got a dock when you bought the palace. I didn’t take pics of the big houses, other than the ones you can see a bit of in the pic above.

There were state and county parks all along the coast. They looked very nice, but it was 91 degrees as we were driving, and we chickened out.

The color change in the water was hard to resist, though!

I took this as we drove over a bridge. Every few miles there is a connection between the ocean and the intercoastal waterway so boats can go out to the ocean. We also drove over several drawbridges. I didn’t take any pics of them, because we were pretty far back in traffic, and you couldn’t see much. I think they are on a schedule, opening every hour or so.

It was so nice visiting with family. We hadn’t been here in several years. Family is one of those important things in life. We have been blessed with good families on both Sterling’s and my side, both the ones who were born before us and the ones born after.

Tomorrow we are headed to Jacksonville. We will hit some new places after that.

So glad to hear from you!
