We spent last night in Columbia, South Carolina. Columbia is the largest city in SC, and it’s capital. We started the day in Jacksonville, FL. To leave Jacksonville we crossed the St. Johns River on the Dames Point Bridge. It’s really beautiful.

I’m still amazed at how many rivers there are on the east coast! We were not able to stop at most of them. This is a photo as we crossed Darien Creek just west of Darien, GA.

We drove through Georgia on our way up to the Andy Griffith Museum in Mt Airy in North Carolina. I had wanted to stop and see some of this interesting state, but the heat was unrelenting. Hopefully we will get another chance at some time in the future. There are so many wonderful things to see!
I took this pic of SC’s Flag flying next to our beautiful US flag. It has a palm tree and a crescent moon on it. I think it really captures the feeling you get in South Carolina, a little tropical, a little romantic.

Today we drove from Columbia, SC to Mt Airy, NC. It is a delightful town. It is the hometown of Andy Griffith and the town the Andy Griffith Show and Mayberry R.F.D. were based on. Here are a few pics.

This is a barber shop repurposing the old garage building! It retains the charm of the past and meets the needs of the present!

This is a memorial of the fallen soldiers who came from this area. The list of their names is divided into different wars and eras. It makes me stop and think of these, mostly, young men giving their lives for what they believed in.

This flag was flying right beside the memorial.
So glad to hear from you!
