TORREZ TRAVELS

The weather seems intent on keeping us warm! The temperature has been in the low hundreds most all day. We pretty much just drove again today. As you see we’re still in Kansas.

I’m not sure we’re seeing anything new out here. I did take some pictures.

The library in Wakeeney closed at 1:30. We couldn’t check in till 3, and it was way too hot outside. So we stopped on our way at a town called Ellis. Their library was open later, so we were able to shelter there. We really liked the town. It had a beautiful church building. here’s a pic.

This building was built in 1873. It started with only 13 members, but quickly grew as the town grew. Ellis is an historic railroad town. It was founded in 1867 as a water stop for the railway, it became an important place for shipping cattle.

We stopped at a Walmart for our dinner, and headed on to Wakeeney. This city is the county seat, and was established in 1879. It’s strange name was formed by combining the last names of the two developers, A.E. Warren and J.F. Keeney! We thought it might be a Native American name!

Tomorrow we drive to Limon, still in Kansas. The “heat dome” seems to be following us. After that we will head north to pickup Interstate 80, the road that will take us
